Being a counter and rental clerk does not differ too terribly much from what a customer service representative does. The difference comes in where anyone applying to be a counter and rental clerk does not have to have an associate or bachelor’s degree. The pay is also quite a bit lower than that of a customer service representative, probably because not as many qualifications are needed for this job as there are for the customer service representative job. The person applying, however, does need to have quite a bit of knowledge of the product that the store is selling or renting. The reason is that the counter and rental clerk need to be able to answer any questions that the customer might have about one of the goods or services so that the customer can be satisfied.

Believe it or not, people who work as a counter and rental clerk do have an opportunity to make a career out of it. This does not necessarily mean that the person will remain a counter and rental clerk for their entire career. They might start out in this position only to be promoted to another position in the company a few years down the road. If an employee wants to advance or have the opportunity to work their way up in the company, they have to show that they are committed to the company and what it stands for. They also have to show that they know how to deal with the customers properly and ensure that most of the customers are happy when they leave the store.

How does being a counter and rental clerk have anything to do with being a customer service career? A counter and rental clerk deal with customers on a daily basis and by answer their questions or giving them good advice on what goods or services they should use, they are providing customer service. The customer service they give out will often tell whether this can be a good career for them or not. If the employee doesn’t care enough about their job to give out high quality customer service, then the customer might not return to do business with that company again. If the employee does care about what they are doing and does give out excellent customer service, then the customers will be more inclined to come back and do business with the company again. This usually looks good on the employee and the higher ups tend to notice this when deciding who will fill the next available supervisor or managerial position that comes open.

There is ample opportunity for anyone in this area that likes what they do and is committed to the kind of work that they do. Lots of people have taken these opportunities and have had rewarding career as a result. Of course, it takes a person who likes what they do and who enjoys helping people when they can. A counter and rental clerk have to deal with customers every day that they go into work, so anyone who does not prefer to be around people all the time would probably not benefit as much from this job as someone who likes people. Though, for anyone who is interested, there is opportunity for advancements, raises and the chance to make this a career.

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
