If you are someone who is organized and are seeking a job that will let you display that quality, you may be interested in a position as a bank teller. A bank teller is the person who takes care of deposit needs, cashing checks, and other behind the scenes details.

A teller’s first and most obvious duties include dealing with customers. Tellers process deposits and withdrawals. Tellers not only deal with many customers in their line of work, they also provide other services that might not always be so readily apparent. Bank tellers might also be called upon to receive loan payments, exchange foreign currency, issue travelers checks and deal with payroll checks. While many of the transactions are very straightforward, a teller may also deal with fairly complex and valuable transactions that have to do with real estate.

Bank tellers are responsible for keeping track of the money they distribute. Tellers keep track of deposit slips and validate everything they process. Tellers sometimes work with computers that do this automatically, or in some situations they work manually and track transactions by hand.

Bank teller positions require a minimum of a high school education. They must maintain professionalism and confidentiality and have excellent customer service skills. Bank tellers represent the bank to the public; therefore, appearance is important. Banks demand that their tellers be clean cut and presentable. To do the job well, a teller must have good people skills, a good head for organization and numbers and diligence when it comes to money. Communication skills are also essential. A teller will likely come in contact with customers who are rude, upset or both, and the teller must respond in a calm and level-headed manner.

Most teller jobs earn a yearly median salary of around $21,000. There is room for advancement, typically promotion to loan officer or similar positions. Tellers typically work day hours, and there may be limited weekend hours involved. Many people find schedule and stability of the position to be benefits of the job.

What I liked about the service is that it had such a comprehensive collection of jobs! I was using a number of sites previously and this took up so much time, but in joining EmploymentCrossing, I was able to stop going from site to site and was able to find everything I needed on EmploymentCrossing.
