There are many different types of customer service jobs out there for those who are looking for them, but they are not always easy to find. As well, you may not know what kind of customer service job that you want to go with.

Understanding the different types of customer service jobs that are out there for you, will allow you to narrow down where you want to work.

The two biggest differences in the various customer service jobs are how the customer service representative interacts with the customers. Some customer service representatives interact with the customer face-to-face, while the other type of customer service job requires the representative to speak over the phone to the customer.

In terms of industry, there are several different sectors that a customer service representative can work in.

The first type of industry is support, which includes creating billing queries, taking orders, activating customer accounts, registering new customers and recording any complaints registered by customers.

The second type of industry is marketing. This entails sending out e-mails, telemarketing, conducting surveys, responding to e-mails and managing marketing campaigns for the company.

The third type of industry is sales, which means inbound sales, outbound sales and web chat with customers.

The fourth type of industry is technical support, which includes providing technical solutions to customers, application support, updates and problem resolution.

The last type is customer analytics, which includes looking at profitability analytics, quality auditing, and complaint analysis.

All of these types of customer service jobs reflect a different portion of the customer service industry, complete with different fields.

Depending on what type of personality you are, different types of customer service jobs are going to appeal to you. If you are very outgoing, sales or marketing will appeal greatly to you, while if you are more reserved and techno-savvy, you will lean towards the technical support side of things.

When you are thinking about choosing a customer service job in a particular industry, try and find one that works best for you and your personality.

Of course, while these five types of customer service jobs or industries seem cut and dry, they are in fact just a generalization. You may find that working in technical support also requires you to do a bit of sales when you need to convince a customer to buy some new parts for their computer.

When you are choosing the career you want to spend your life in, give some thought to customer service. It is the type of career where your entire goal is helping the customer and making things easier for them. Whether it is with a new product, assisting in troubleshooting or simply letting them vent about something they are not happy about, being a part of the customer service industry is all about making the customer happy.

Take a look at your own personality and figure out what industry is going to be best for you when the time comes to take the leap into the customer service industry as a customer service representative.
