Best Buy says the worsening sales environment may be force them to lay off workers and slow its new store openings in the United States.

 

The Minneapolis based retailer already informed almost all of their 4,000 corporate employees that they’re eligible for a voluntary separation package in order to reduce corporate expenses.

 

The voluntary packages give an incentive to employees who decide to leave by offering a “significant increase in” the company’s base severance offer.

 

The No. 1 electronics seller still warned corporate layoffs could follow depending on how the voluntary program goes.

 

In addition to the layoffs the company plans to reduce its capital spending by nearly 50% next year. That means a substantial reduction in new stores opening in the U.S., Canada, and China.
