The Fulton County Fire Department in Georgia sent out pre-layoff letters informing more than three dozen firefighters of the possibility that they may lose their jobs. But according to county leaders, not all 45 firefighters would be laid off. The reason for the staff cuts is a reduction in duties. Fire department spokesman Greg Chambers said that the county plans to mail out termination notices next Tuesday, and that cuts will be based on skills and seniority. The county currently employs an estimated 165 firefighters at 13 stations.
