Gallagher Law Library seeks a responsible, collaborative, friendly, and detail-oriented individual with a sense of humor who will join our team of 22 librarians and staff in serving the diverse needs of the UW School of Law, the UW community, and public visitors. Reporting to the Head of Access Services, this position will be responsible for supervising undergraduate student employees at the Circulation Desk on Sundays and Monday through Thursday evenings as well as for coordination of the law library's course reserve collection.
Staff and supervise the Circulation Desk, ensuring high-quality customer service when interacting with UW Law faculty, administration, staff, students, and all other library visitors
Negotiate patron complaints and infractions and enforce security and emergency procedures
Circulate UW Libraries materials to patrons: checking in, returning, placing items on hold shelf, delivery of items to UW Law faculty and staff
Supervise student desk work, library walk throughs, faculty delivery, shelving, and other projects
Register public patrons for library accounts.
Hire, train and evaluate student employees
Work with Gates Hall Facilities Coordinator and Technology Services to ensure the library equipment and facilities function appropriately
Additional administrative duties as assigned, including possible future opportunities to cross-train in other library departments
High school graduation or equivalent AND one year of service-sector experience or closely related activity, or satisfactory completion of relevant course work OR equivalent education/experience
Demonstrated ability to handle high-stress and emergency situations
Demonstrated excellent customer service orientation
Ability to recognize and set priorities, and to use independent judgment and initiative in a variety of situations
High level of detail orientation, with proven ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and interruptions.
Exceptional organizational skills
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new programs
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to work a varied schedule, including evenings and weekends
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent AND one year of demonstrated experience in a customer service environment, a library, or satisfactory completion of relevant coursework
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTS:
When UW Law classes are in session, this position will include some Monday-Thursday afternoons/evenings from 4:45-8:00 PM and Sundays from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. During interim periods and the summer, the Head of Circulation will determine an agreeable daytime schedule.
